Ready to return, ready to go….

DAY SIXTY-FIVE : Leviticus 14 v. 1 – 57; Mark 13 v. 1 – 31; Psalm 30 v. 8 – 12

Cleansing from Infectious Skin Diseases – continuing on from yesterday’s readings, there were times when the skin disease would heal up and the individual was welcomed back into the community – firstly, back into the camp (for one week, staying outside their tent), after the sacrifice of a bird, a good sprinkling of blood and water, pronouncing him ‘clean’ again; secondly, after a week, shaving and washing completely, a ritual of returning to the tabernacle with sacrifices (guilt, sin and burnt offerings) and with oil (a ‘log of oil’ being about 2/3 of a pint, it is suggested) for anointing.  There are concessions for poorer members of the community.

Cleansing from Mildew – again, following yesterday, there are regulations for them, for when they settle in Canaan, and build houses, to watch for the spread of destructive mildew / fungus; initially, they are to take out the affected stones / plaster, destroying them completely, and replacing them. If the mildew reappears and spreads further, the whole house will need to be completely destroyed.

Are extreme weather conditions a sign to us ?
Continuing to pray for the people of Christchurch today…..

Signs of the end of the age – just as in Matthew’s gospel, Jesus talks with His disciples about the times to come
~ the temple will be torn down
~ false ‘Messiahs’ will appear
~ wars and rumours of wars will abound
~ nation and kingdom will rise against others
~ earthquakes and famines will increase
~ persecution of Christians will be on the up
~ the gospel will be preached to all nations (Biblefresh year is also about bible translation, making Christ accessible to all nations)
~ the Holy Spirit will give you what to say in every dangerous situation
~ families will betray sons, brothers, parents
~ the ‘abomination that causes desolation’ will appear (probably referring to the Roman army’s attack on Jerusalem, and the Jewish rebels who desecrated the temple before its destruction)
~ the ‘sun will be darkened, and stars will fall’
~ the Son of Man will appear ‘coming  in clouds with great power and glory’, with His angels
~ like the branches of a fig-tree showing signs of buds and leaves, the end of the age will show signs
‘Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

Clearly, the ‘end of the age’ gets a day nearer each day that passes; in that sense, we live in the end times, assured of Jesus’ return, and looking for signs of the kingdom today…

“You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
that my heart may sing to You and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give You thanks for ever.”
